June 17, 2014, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Osaka University, Japan, has an agreement has implemented a cooperation agreement in double degree program of Ph.D. Courses. ITB is represented by Faculty of Industrial Technology and Faculty of and Faculty of Matematics and Natural Sciences. And Osaka University is represented by Graduate School of Engineering (GSE).

The signing ceremony of Double Degree Program Of Phd Courses was signed by each deans. Prof. Bermawi, Dean of FIT ITB said, “It is my pleasure to be here today (this afternoon) in the signing ceremony of Double Degree Program Of Phd Courses between (i) GSE Osaka University and Faculty of Industrial Technology, ITB and (ii) GSE Osaka University and Faculty of Matematics and Natural Sciences, ITB.”

Faculty of Industrial Technology has had collaboration and exchange programmes with some universities for sometime – Groningen University (Netherland), Ecole de Maine (France), Toyohashi University of Technology, Hiroshima University (Japan), several Universities in Taiwan – NTUST, Chia Tung Univ, Chung Yuan Christian Univ.
One of the major benefits of having collaborations is the exposure gained by academic staff and students as well as the internationalization of ITB and its study programmes.

For students: The students do not only benefits from experiencing a different academic atmofeer (in fact an international academic atmosfeer) but also a different cultural environtment. These helps widening the academic and cultural horizon of the students, and this in turn improves our graduates’ quality.

For a double degree program for Ph.D. courses, Faculty of Industrial Technology, consider as an effective way to improve the quality of our graduates (to reach an international standard) as well as to increase ITB’s research publication.  As you may aware that ITB’s research publication is lag behind compared to the research publication of the top universities in Asia.

ITB has allocated enough fund to increase research publication and the Rector of ITB constantly encourages Faculty and School within ITB to estabish double degree programmes to improve the quality of our graduates as well as to increase research publications.

Prof. Bermawi said “Today we, FIT-ITB and GSE OU are about to sign the agreement of DDP for PhD courses, for us, FIT, it is a great honour to collabotare with the high standing university such as Osaka University. I believe that this DDP will allow each institution bringing the best knowlegde and technology into the program, which ultimately will give much benefits to the graduates of the program.  I think that this program will contribute to develop a high quality of human resources for the global citizen. Also, I believe that this program will strengthen our relationship, ITB and OU, and at large, Indonesia and Japan relationship.  Finally, I wish a fruitful collaboration and success in our double degree program for PhD courses.”
